2010 Mentor-of-the-Year Award Winner, David M. Misltein, MD

Here is an excerpt from the nomination letter for our Mentor of the Year, Dr. David M. Milstein.  The award is given at the ACNM Annual Meeting. Nominees are chosen for their outstanding mentorship throughout the years to mentees.

"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”  - William Arthur Ward.  And, to nominate Dr. David M. Milstein for the most prestigious ‘ACNM Mentor of the Year’ award would be to appropriately honor a great and gifted teacher. I am currently in my third year of residency training at Montefiore Medical Center, NY.  Dr. Milstein’s extraordinary enthusiasm, unrelenting curiosity and passionate teaching amaze and inspire us residents to constantly to learn more.  Dr. Milstein is a strong proponent of compassionate patient care and resident education and constantly brings in changes to improve both these areas.  The best parts of being with Dr. Milstein are his personality and collegiality.  He sets a wonderful example with his hard work, discipline and professionalism and is always open to suggestions and feedback.  In short, Dr. Milstein embodies and cultivates the exemplary characteristics setting an ideal example for his residents.

For many others and me, Dr. Milstein serves as the “gold standard” and inspires us constantly to learn and contribute to the field of nuclear medicine.  To honor him with this esteemed award would be an appropriate recognition to a true mentor and colleague and an overdue appreciation for the numerous nuclear medicine physicians that were trained under him.  True to the saying, his teachings and disciples affect eternity.

We are proud to honor Dr. Milstein this year.  Heartfelt thanks for your exemplary service.
