Medicare Jurisdiction J Transition from Cahaba to Palmetto GBA

March 27, 2018

On February 23, 2018, Palmetto GBA officially transitioned all Part A and Part B Jurisdiction J providers. As previously announced in September 2017, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded the Jurisdiction J (Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee) Medicare Part A and Part B contract to Palmetto GBA.

Effective with the transition, Palmetto GBA will implement Palmetto GBA's established fees for all claims processed for dates of service 2016 or after. Claims previously paid will not be reopened, unless they are brought to Palmetto's attention or through the process of applying other CMS mandated adjustments related to recent 2018 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule fee revisions.

SNMMI sent a letter to Palmetto GBA expressing concerns about the rate differences and the retroactive portion of the new policy. The society is also working with other societies impacted to address these concerns.
